2021 Year In Review

Every year since 2016, I’ve been creating One Second Everyday (1SE) videos to capture my experiences over the course of a year. And it’s that time again to mash together one year of one-second videos and see what 2021 was like for me.

2021 was my first full year of full-time travel. And while it was full of lots of house sitting and wonderful pets, I actually started the year renting places in Austin, Texas for the month of January and in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the month of February. Then I spent the spring in Lexington, SC at a long-term housesit, and a lot of the summer riding roller coasters at Carowinds, King’s Island, Cedar Point, Kennywood, Adventureland – and several more I haven’t written about yet! (I am sooooo behind on blogging…)

My fall was spent in Colorado, which was amazing, then more time at repeat house sits in Ohio and South Carolina for people that now feel like family. After a stint down in Florida, I’ve settled down for a bit with friends at home in Chattanooga while some of my would-be sits were canceled due to the latest wave of Covid. And frankly, I’m awfully tired of moving around so much. I hope 2022 is a little more relaxing. I think more house sits and fewer roller coasters might be the answer.

I’m also learning how to day trade and swing trade on the stock market, so a lot of my year was spent taking a course on how to Trade & Travel, so hopefully, I can keep traveling indefinitely. Honestly, most of my days look like yours – I spend all day on the computer trading and blogging and the evenings either watching movies or reading. I just do it in someone else’s house!

2020 was a big year for all of us. Besides the emergence of Covid-19, Black Lives Matter protests, and electing a new president, 2020 is the year I quit my job and started traveling full time. The video below shows the wind-up of several projects at my house during the first half of the year (including digitizing our family’s records and cassette tapes.) Then basically, I dyed my hair pink and hit the road in August.

My first trip was to visit several civil rights sights through Alabama, ending in a stint on the gulf coast. Then I had back-to-back house sits in Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, Lookout Mountain, and Washington DC. And at the end of the year, I had to buy a new car! Apparently, my 15-year-old Honda couldn’t keep up with all my driving.

2019 was the year my mom died and I moved from her house back to my own:

2018’s videos came in two parts because I got a new phone in the fall of that year. And going from an iPhone to an Android Pixel 3 meant I couldn’t combine the two.

This was the year I sold everything I owned, rented out my house for the first time, and moved in with my mom.

In 2017, I changed jobs until I landed on the last one I held. Plus, this is the year my cat died and when I started selling off my stuff in order to move in with Mom.

2016 1SE Video

2016 is the first year I started recording videos every day. It’s also the year I was let go from the job I held for 13 years and the year my dad died. SO, the last few years have been eventful, to say the least.

I really liked your pink hair! Also it’s hard to judge by one second clips but I think we’re both in agreement the last president was a douchebag.

You made it to the end! (Hint: I love comments)
