2022 Year In Review

Every year since 2016, I’ve been creating One Second Everyday (1SE) videos to capture my experiences over the course of a year. And it’s that time again to mash together one year of one-second(ish) videos and see what 2022 looked like!

The beginning of 2022 found me stranded in Chattanooga at a friend’s house due to a cancelled housesit, and I would return to her home many times this year! Lots of hikes with friends and time with family were very welcome.

But most of my year was back-to-back housesits, as well as I could manage. I spent the winter in downtown Philadelphia and returned to Pennsylvania a few months later to the Amish countryside. (I fit in one theme park – and it’s a good one.) There were a lot of repeat sits in Ohio and South Carolina, but I also pushed more into New England, making it up to Massachusetts and Vermont. A week in Maine visiting Acadia National Park with friends was followed quickly by a flight to California and a week at Disneyland!

I also spent time in North Carolina near Asheville and driving up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway, which was one of the year’s real treats. It’s also the year I finally caught Covid (at that aforementioned theme park.) Several hotels, lots of pets, and many, many movies, books, and crafts filled out the rest of my days. Because as much as I love traveling full-time, I do enjoy my downtime! I think this is the year that I discovered how tiring it is not to have a home base to go back to. Though with my awesome friends, I have near enough to the next best thing! I really am thankful for the support I’ve had from old friends and near strangers who let me stay in their homes for free! I really couldn’t manage this life otherwise.

My hope for 2023 is to make an income from the stock market (I keep trying!) so I can feel a little freer to keep traveling and experiencing things I put off due to the cost. (And not have a heart attack every time I have to get a hotel.) Like any big career change, this is the grinding hard part to get through before I feel successful. Or fail trying.

2021 was my first year of full-time travel. I started the year in Texas and New Mexico, then ranged all over from Colorado to Florida. There are a lot of pets and housesitting, plus learning how to trade on the stock market. Most of my summer was spent visiting several amusement parks, which I’ve written all about. Plus loads of movies, books, and crafts. Y’all know I’m an introvert, right? Movies, books, and podcasts are where I go to hide.

2020 was a big year for all of us. Besides the emergence of Covid-19, Black Lives Matter protests, and electing a new president, 2020 is the year I quit my job and started traveling full time. The video below shows the wind-up of several projects at my house during the first half of the year (including digitizing our family’s records and cassette tapes.) Then basically, I dyed my hair pink and hit the road in August.

My first trip was to visit several civil rights sights through Alabama, ending in a stint on the gulf coast. Then I had back-to-back house sits in Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, Lookout Mountain, and Washington DC. And at the end of the year, I had to buy a new car! Apparently, my 15-year-old Honda couldn’t keep up with all my driving.

2019 was the year my mom died and I moved from her house back to my own:

2018’s videos came in two parts because I got a new phone in the fall of that year. And going from an iPhone to an Android Pixel 3 meant I couldn’t combine the two.

This was the year I sold everything I owned, rented out my house for the first time, and moved in with my mom.

In 2017, I changed jobs until I landed on the last one I held. Plus, this is the year my cat died and when I started selling off my stuff in order to move in with Mom.

2016 1SE Video

2016 is the first year I started recording videos every day. It’s also the year I was let go from the job I held for 13 years and the year my dad died. SO, the last few years have been eventful, to say the least.
